Description: There are four basic types of automatic fire sprinkler systems: wet pipe systems, dry pipe systems, pre-action systems and deluge systems. These systems are the most commonly installed types of suppression systems. Each type of system has characteristics appropriate for situations and applications. Students will be able to identify and understand each system after this class. This class will also discuss the evolution of residential fire sprinkler systems.

Description: This is a great class for the new firefighter or a firefighter who needs a refresher on atmospheric air monitoring while using a single or multi gas detector. Knowing how to use your meter is crucial. This class will go over the basic concepts of what a meter is, how to turn it on, calibrate, bump test and zero out for use. In addition, the student will learn how to operate the meter when on various calls for Service.

Description: This program combines a series of lectures approved by healthcare professionals, with hands on skill labs, and clinical experiences. We’ve created a superior entry level Emergency Medical Technician class that gives you the ability to care for a sick or injured individual. Following successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to attend the New Jersey State EMT testing. Students will have the opportunity for clinical experiences in local dispatch centers, emergency departments, on mobile intensive care units and basic life support units. The program is a cooperative effort between Camden County Regional Emergency Training Center, Underwood Memorial Hospital, EMS Academy and Cooper University Medical Center. The curriculum meets the New Jersey specific educational needs of those individuals aspiring to become an Emergency Medical Technician. At the conclusion of the program the student will be significantly more competent, and posses a well defined sense of clinical judgment in today’s environment. Requirement(s): All students must be at least sixteen years of age by the first day of class in order to enroll in the program. A health screening and tuberculin skin test may be required.

Description: This program is designed to assist those members between the age group of 16-18, recognize the occupational hazards, identify the tools of the trade, and begin building the necessary
skills needed to operate safely on an emergency scene. The program consists of several topics in Fire Dept. Organization, Firefighter Safety, Fire Behavior, Alarms/Communications, Hose, Nozzles, Appliances, Forcible Entry Tools, Ropes & Knots, Salvage / Overhaul, Ventilation, S.C.B.A., Ground Ladders, Fire Extinguishers and many others. Large Area Search (ce.fac-116)

Description: A large area search is a search where a team is entering a fire building to do a primary or secondary search under arduous conditions because of a known life hazard. This type of search is used in a building that does not require a wide-open-area search or a patterned search. Instead, this type of search uses the rope to secure and control an exit point from the fire area. Building types include office buildings, apartment houses with long hallways or stores with aisles that have stock and merchandise in place. This class will teach and demonstrate different ways on how to effectively accomplish a large area search task.

Description: The Nance Drill is based on the death of John Nance of the Columbus Fire Department. Engineer Nance was trapped in the basement of a commercial occupancy following a floor collapse. Despite the exhaustive efforts of multiple crews, engineer Nance was unable to be removed from the occupancy prior to succumbing to the elements. This class will teach you how to remove an unconscious and or conscious firefighter from below grade.

Representatives from Public Service Gas will discuss each of these emergencies and provide Beast Practices for emergency response agencies to follow on arrival and during the incident, information will be provided on Damage Prevention and the Mark-Out Process.

Description: Propane (C3H8) (also called LPG—liquefied petroleum gas—or LP gas) is a liquid fuel stored under pressure that vaporizes to a gas before it leaves the tank. At normal atmospheric pressure and temperature, it is a non-toxic, colorless and odorless gas. This three-hour class will give the First Responder the knowledge about Propane, where to find Propane, how to detect Propane using meters. When Propane is present for a call of service this class will discuss on how to mitigate the incident.

Street Smart Decon For The Firefighter (ce.fac-111)

Description: This class will review the types of Decon that shall be performed by a single engine company. We will talk about Emergency Decon, Gross Decon and Mass Decon. The single engine company can deploy all types of Decon and have the Decon line grow without stopping operations if set up correctly. We will also demonstrate and show you tips / tricks on how to set up a Decon with just the basic engine company resources at hand.

Vehicle Extrication I

Description: This 19 hour program will consist of a lecture on the role of the first responder, EMS and various tools used in extrication. Students will review the principles of removing victims from wrecks and how vehicle construction is changing, making the process more difficult. The Sunday session will consist of hands on field evolutions using various rescue tools giving the participant the skills and knowledge needed to operate safely.
