Navigating his second year at CCC, Vincent Focht balances his commitment to academic work with his involvement at the college’s radio station, 91.5 WDBK-FM.
Although he was previously aware of the college’s radio station, it wasn’t until Spring 2024, after meeting Radio Station Coordinator Nick Earnshaw and seeing firsthand what students could gain from it, that he began his journey with WDBK.
Looking back, he shares, “I couldn’t believe that I had the opportunity to be involved with equipment like this, to learn how the board works, and to see how a typical radio broadcast runs.”
Since then, he watched the station change from a nearly empty room to an engaging space. New equipment, resources, and an increasing number of students now fill the station, and its impact continues to expand. “From barely 10 crew members to now being at the 30 mark, it’s incredible to watch grow,” he adds.
For Vincent, two of the most rewarding aspects of working at the station are watching its members grow confidence on-air and witnessing the improvements that have helped WDBK evolve.
His role at the station has given him opportunities to learn outside of campus, such as participating in major events like the final New Jersey Gubernatorial Debate. This year, the station received two tickets, allowing both Nick and Vincent to attend, while the rest of the team tuned in remotely from Blackwood to New Brunswick.
Reflecting on the journey, he states, “To have a station like this go from being barely known to being on a stage like that has been incredible.”
His experience at WDBK has shown him that it is more than just a place to be on the air. It is a space for students to discover their talents and pursue new opportunities.
He encourages other students to get involved, whether with the station or through other activities. Specifically, he advises, “If you are looking for a future in this business, get involved with the station and make yourself available for everything.”
Thank you, Vincent, for sharing your journey with 91.5 WDBK-FM!
