Alzheimer’s Journey Coordinator Certificate Program

The purpose of the curriculum is to provide students with the educational and clinical skills necessary to assist caregivers in recognizing and understanding the symptoms/treatment/guidance of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias (RDs). The program will build a student’s communication skills with respect to cultural sensitivity and person-centered plans. The program will provide skills to help differentiate between the multiple systems and strategies to effectively navigate through various institutions including federal (to include the VA), state, county and local health and social agencies. This certificate curriculum will also assist students who are presently working for agencies that provide services to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Program Goals

  • To earn a certificate as an Alzheimer’s Journey Coordinator
  • To provide a concentration of course work appropriate for an
    Alzheimer’s Journey Coordinator Certificate Program.
  • To integrate knowledge that would help eliminate barriers
    to care and ensure timely delivery of culturally and quality
    services to Alzheimer’s/Dementia patient/families.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  • Compare and contrast Alzheimer’s Diseases and related
    dementias as a public health crisis and the current barriers to
    care and services.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and relationship
    building skills that traverse dynamic networks of
    professionals, families, caregivers, and the person
    experiencing Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementia.
  • Integrate information on the symptoms, treatment, and
    guidance of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
  • Differentiate multiple systems and strategies to effectively
    navigate families through various institutions (federal, state,
    county, and local/health & social).
