Teen Arts Festival 2022

Registration is underway for the 2022 Camden County Teen Arts Festival. The annual event – in person this year – will take place on the Blackwood Campus of Camden County College on April 29, 2022.

The Teen Arts Festival is an annual state-wide event for high school students to be recognized for their interests in the arts and encourages them to continue their creative work. In a typical year, counties hold Teen Arts events in early spring, where students gather during a one-day event to present their work, receive critiques from professional artists, observe the work of their peers, and participate in workshops in their areas of interest with professionals. Submissions are adjudicated and winners at the county level qualify to compete with students from other counties in the statewide Teen Arts Festival in June.

After two years of virtual festivals due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Teen Arts planning committee is excited to host an in-person event at the newly renovated Lincoln Hall at Camden County College. Categories of participation include Creative Writing, Poetry, Video & Filmmaking, Visual Arts, Dance, Theatre, Musical Theatre, Vocal Music, and Instrumental Music. Registration and participation is open to all Camden County Schools and teen artists, grades 9 through 12. Students may enter individually or as a school/organization. More information and the registration form may be found at https://www.camdencc.edu/teenarts/.

The Teen Arts Festival is sponsored by the Camden County Cultural & Heritage Commission at Camden County College (CCC&HC@CCC). Founded in 1972, the CCC&HC@CCC recognizes the role of the arts and local history in making our communities dynamic places to live and work. The Commission was established by the Board of Chosen Freeholders to act as the designated agency in Camden County to receive and administer the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Local Arts Program and the New Jersey Historical Commission County History Partnership Program. These grants programs provide funding for small and emerging non-profit organizations through the Commission’s re-grant program.

$99 per credit for the Spring 2022 Semester

Registration opens October 18

The Camden County College Board of Trustees has approved a tuition rate of $99 per credit for the Spring 2022 Semester. The $99 rate is the lowest in the region and applies to in-county and out-of-county students taking courses in-person and online. The ability of institutional Federal CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Funding has made it possible for CCC to offer this one-time benefit to students.

Registration for the Spring 2022 Semester opens on October 18, 2021. CCC is offering a full schedule of in-person and online courses this spring, including for-credit lectures, workforce development, and noncredit courses. CCC offers the largest selection of degree and certificate programs, most available transfer options, and the lowest tuition in the region. Students are encouraged to register early for the best selection.

“If the cost of higher education is the reason you haven’t pursued your academic goals, we want to remove that barrier. Our goal for our students is zero college debt, and it can be done,” said CCC President Donald A. Borden. “The best part is that this rate applies to in-person and online courses. The choice is yours.”

In order for every student to achieve a college education, CCC offers affordable tuition and fees, federal and state financial aid options, work-study programs, and a variety of payment plans. The availability of CARES III Grants can also provide help paying for education-related expenses such as food, housing, and technology needs, as well as or in addition to childcare, medical, and other qualifying expenditures.

The $99 per credit rate excludes Real Estate (FIN) and Center for Cultural Engagement (IDY) coursework. International student tuition is adjusted to $172 per credit.

Free Tuition Program Signed into Law

The Community College Opportunity Grant program provides a last-dollar scholarship to attend a Community College for individuals in households earning $65,000 adjusted gross income or less. The program was first established in the state’s FY 2019 budget and assisted more than 18,000 students last year, including recent high school graduates and working adults. These students enrolled in a Community College and embarked on a pathway toward earning college degrees and credentials. This program expands economic opportunity while helping New Jersey build a productive and innovative workforce that enables economic growth and recovery.

“Camden County College thanks Governor Murphy for his leadership in making a community college education more accessible for New Jersey residents,” said President Donald A. Borden. “This program eliminates the financial barriers that restrict people from getting the post-secondary education they need to be successful in their careers and lives.”
New Jersey’s 18 Community Colleges, as the only educational institutions with statewide reach, provide essential opportunities to more than 300,000 New Jersey residents each year. Over 200,000 students – more than half of all undergraduate students in all public colleges and universities in the state – are enrolled in credit and degree programs at New Jersey’s Community Colleges. Equity and access priorities are advanced everyday with 50% of all students enrolled in New Jersey’s Community Colleges being nonwhite.
The Community College Opportunity Grant program is an important investment in students and in the state’s economic future. This tuition financial aid program supports the most vulnerable residents for whom a college education is unaffordable. This law puts the Community College Opportunity Grant program on par with other highly respected, need- and merit-based college support programs such as TAG and NJ Stars. As New Jersey’s residents face the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Community College Opportunity Grant serves as a pathway for the state’s residents to attain the education needed to move forward and succeed.

Here are the stories of two of those students:

Morgan McGrath
At 27 years old Morgan McGrath, completed her first college semester at Camden County College as a pre-nursing major in spring 2020, after a five-year gap in her education. The CCOG grant made it possible for Morgan to enroll in college. When she found out about the grant, Morgan says it was a huge relief knowing that she would have a way to pay for college and that she was closer to reaching her educational goals. She’s now completed three semesters at CCC and, although it’s been a challenging year with new obstacles, she says she’s so excited to have this opportunity to continue her education.

Luke Ottinger
Luke Ottinger transferred to Camden County College from another community college in 2018 to complete the Our Lady of Lourdes Nursing program. Luke became eligible for CCOG in the Fall of 2020. He chose an accelerated program despite the added difficulty because of extreme financial hardship. The CCOG grant made it possible for Luke to achieve his dreams. Luke has taken and passed his licensing exam and is looking for work as a Registered Nurse.

Student Tuition Statements Available

The IRS form 1098-T (Tuition Statement) is issued for each student enrolled and for whom a reportable transaction is made. Per IRS mandate, beginning in tax year 2018, CCC reports payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses, and no longer reports amounts billed for qualified tuition and fees. For a payment to be reportable, it must relate to qualified tuition and related expenses billed during the same calendar year. Amounts paid will be limited to the amount of qualified tuition and related expenses billed within the same calendar year. Please note that qualified tuition/expenses are billed on the day that a student registers, which may have been in 2019 for spring 2020 and in fall 2020 for spring 2021. The form is available on the college website through MyCCC Portal. Students do not have to be currently enrolled to access their Self-Service account. Students who do not remember their password, may contact the Help Desk at 856-227-7200 x4900. To access the form, log into MyCCC portal, go to Payment Center through Self Serve or WebAdvisor, Under Financial Information tab, click on View My 1098-T Forms, then select the year you wish to view.

Thank You William G. Rohrer Foundation

The scholarship funds will be used to support students in need to reach their academic goals at Camden County College. The William G. Rohrer Foundation has given over $800,000 to the Camden County College Foundation since 2000.

We appreciate the generous support of our students.

Spring 2021 semester mix of online and in-person classes

Camden County College President Donald A. Borden announced that spring 2021 for-credit lecture, workforce development, and noncredit courses will continue to be offered online, with many nursing, health sciences, lab, and studio courses offered through a hybrid mix of in-person and remote courses.

“Camden County College continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on College operations,” Borden said. “Our foremost commitment remains to ensure the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and community members as we gradually reintegrate onto our campuses and instructional sites.”

For the spring 2021 semester, lecture sections will be offered in a combination of synchronous course delivery (instructors and students meet at the same time online) and asynchronous course delivery (materials and assignments are prepared in advance and available online over the course of the semester), allowing students to achieve their educational goals in a learning format that best fits their schedule.

Spring semester courses containing both lecture and lab instructional components will be offered in a hybrid course format, allowing for limited in-person instruction in keeping with the Governor’s restart plan and CDC standards.

“Because the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be fluid, campus restart conditions will evolve and may change,” Borden said. “The College is prepared to reassess and readjust our approach to spring instruction should circumstances dictate and as we receive updated direction from the Governor.”
Registration for spring 2021 courses begins on November 2.

Fall 2020 semester mix of online and
in-person classes

(Blackwood, NJ) – Camden County College President Donald A. Borden announced that most fall 2020 for-credit, workforce development, and noncredit courses will be offered online or remotely, with many nursing, health sciences, lab, and studio courses offered in-person subject to state approval and adherence to safety protocols recommended by the health care community.

“As we continue to monitor COVID-19 and its impact on College operations, we remain acutely aware of how the pandemic will affect campus re-entry and fall 2020 semester instruction.” Borden said. “Our primary responsibility is to ensure the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and community members as we gradually reintegrate onto our campuses and instructional sites. Public safety and security measures, including CDC standards for access, wellness monitoring, and social distancing will guide our fall teaching strategy.”

Following an announcement from Governor Murphy permitting phased re-entry for higher education, the College continues to prepare instructional plans for the fall semester. A Return to Campus task force is actively developing an array of re-entry strategies. Among contingency planning is a Curriculum and Instruction subgroup comprised of Academic Affairs faculty and administrators. The task force has explored alternative teaching approaches from various perspectives including space, classroom and laboratory resources, and how class meetings could be safely and effectively managed in the fall.

“Ultimately, unrestricted face-to-face instruction for lecture course sections is not achievable for the fall 2020 semester, even with carefully-staged sequencing of students, rotating class meeting days and times, and essential social distancing and sanitation protocols.” Borden said. “The burden placed on students, faculty members, facilities personnel, housekeeping, and our Public Safety staff would prove not only unmanageable, but unsafe.”

For the fall 2020 semester, all lecture course sections will be offered in an online modality. Those courses containing both lecture and lab instructional components will convert to a hybrid
course modality, allowing for limited in-person instruction in keeping with the Governor’s plan and CDC standards.

Sequenced re-entry for in-person lab and practicum courses that could not be completed for the spring 2020 semester will have first preference when campuses reopen. A prioritized re-entry timeline for staging in-person fall lab and practicum instruction is likewise in preparation for students’ return to campus.

Because the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be fluid, re-entry details will evolve and could change. The College is prepared to reassess and readjust our approach to fall teaching modalities should circumstances dictate. Registration for the fall semester is taking place now at www.camdencc.edu/fall.

Camden County College, located in Blackwood, Camden and Cherry Hill, is one of the largest community colleges in New Jersey and ranks among the top nationwide in terms of associate degree graduates and workforce training.
