Transfer Action Steps for Success
It’s never too early to start planning for the transfer process! For a successful transfer, complete these transfer action items by the number of credits earned.
0-15 Credits
- Schedule a meeting with Career Planning and Advancement Center to identify careers, college majors, and programs of interest
- Determine if your active major is correct and transferable to four-year institutions (AA, AS, AFA, or AAS)
- Meet with an Academic Advisor to discuss required courses and a course plan
- Explore the Transfer Services webpage to review partnerships with four-year institutions and upcoming events, such as information sessions, college table visits, bus trips, and fairs
16-30 Credits
- Attend CCC Transfer Events
- Identify four-year institutions with majors of interest
- Research the transfer admissions process for perspective four-year institutions
- Check perspective transfer institution websites for visitation days, transfer information, and to plan your visit
- Meet with a CCC academic advisor to discuss a transfer plan
- Review list of guaranteed admissions programs at partner schools
- Complete a dual admissions application or letter of intent before reaching your 30th credit
31-45 Credits
- Identify your top 3 to 5 transfer institutions
- Attend an open house to get a feel of the campus at the four-year institution
- Check the four-year institutions websites for transfer application and financial aid deadlines
- Review required transfer application materials
– (transcripts, letters of recommendations, mid-term reports, portfolios, etc) - Contact four-year institution’s transfer representatives for specific application questions
46-60 Credits
- File a FAFSA and add the four-year institutions
- Submit transfer applications to four-year institution(s) by the priority or hard deadlines
- Request and submit all college transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
- Complete the CCC graduation overview within Self Service via the MyCCC Portal
- Apply to scholarships via the four-year institutions, CCC’s Foundation page, or additional scholarship websites, such as FastWeb, Unigo, Career OneStop, and CollegeNet
- Pay the deposit at the four-year institution once admitted
- Meet with your assigned four-year advisor to register for classes
- Submit a final CCC transcript with updated final grades and degree conferral to the four-year institution
