The traditional education path is often viewed as linear. An individual begins in primary school,moves through secondary, and eventually graduates to begin college or a career of their own.
But for many, what seems like a clear path to success is sometimes hindered by unexpected circumstances such as family responsibilities, financial barriers, housing instability, and more.
At Camden County College, Adult Basic Skills (ABS) is a program that continues to redefine what the path to academic success can look like, helping students to overcome barriers that have impacted their educational experiences.
The ABS program provides in-person instruction, tutoring, and training opportunities to prepare students for GED testing. The program also offers Free Microsoft Office Specialist certifications and English as a Second Language (ESL) support.
For nearly two decades, ABS has supported over 1,175 New Jersey residents, helping them build stronger foundations in their education and career journeys.
Aurella Green, Director of Adult Basic Skills, shared, “When you know who you serve, you know how to serve, and that principle guides not only our own programming, but the tone we help set for offerings among all of our consortium partners.”
She continued, “We offer several opportunities throughout the year for learners to enroll or reengage, so a setback never has to mean starting over.”
ABS meets students where they are, creating an environment in which there is no single path to educational success, but rather a path that fits each student’s needs.
