Bernard Bryson (‘26) found his future path long before his experience at Camden County College (CCC). Inspired by his father’s work as a mechanic, he developed a passion for gear trains, robotics, and learning how different mechanical systems work. Through seeing his father’s career in action, a seed was planted in Bernard’s mind that he too could pursue his own path in engineering.
During a middle school visit from Camden County Technical School (CCTS), he learned about their engineering track and took the opportunity to turn his passion into a future career.
After two years of pre-engineering at CCTS, he enrolled at Camden County College in 2016. His sights were set on one day building assembly lines and working within robotics.
With a plan to obtain a degree in Electromechanical Engineering, he began taking classes at the William G. Rohrer Center before moving to the Blackwood Campus for hands-on learning.
During his time at CCC, Bernard gained experience working with new and familiar tools. He credits his professors and mentors for helping him grow in his college journey.
“I had taken Machine Shop back in high school, but it would have been fun to be on the shop floor at CCC. They have a lot more tools here than we had in high school. Everything on the shop floor is higher tech.”
In May 2026, Bernard completed his studies at CCC and walked across the stage at Commencement. Through years of hard work, classes that pushed him, and connections he built with professors, he could hardly believe how much time had passed since his start at the college. For him, the moment felt surreal.
When asked what advice he would give to future CCC students, Bernard stated, “Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You’ll find it in the strangest places.”
He encourages students to seek support not only from professors but also from classmates; sometimes peers can serve as additional support through the college experience.
