Fifty years ago, before the Papiano Gym and Cougar Field became what they are today, Camden County College (CCC) baseball was already paving a path for itself. In the mid-1970s, the team had impressive seasons, competing in exhibition games against local institutions, reaching the Junior College World Series twice, and holding a 40-10 record.
This year, during an early season practice, Coach John Scanzano welcomed former pitcher Grant Cate back to the college. Cate played for the Cougars in the 70s. During his visit, he had the opportunity to connect with athletics staff, meet players, and share advice from his CCC experience. Cate even worked one-on-one with the college’s current pitchers in the bullpen.
Looking back on his time at CCC, Cate reflected on the college’s impact on him, stating, “My time here set me on the right course.”
Cate serves as a reminder that after graduation, there is always an opportunity to come back to CCC, share your story, and inspire the next generation of students who will follow in your footsteps.
Thank you, Grant Cate, for revisiting campus and supporting our men’s baseball team!
