Health and Exercise Transfer Program

The Health & Exercise Science program prepares a student to receive an associate in science degree (A.S.) This may enable a student to transfer to a four-year college and major in a variety of related fields in health, education and exercise science. The curriculum features a broad academic base of knowledge in general studies, including humanities, social science, science and mathematics. Elective opportunities of interest in health and exercise science are are also a possibility. Career options are exercise science, health and fitness technology, teacher preparation, coaching and athletic training.

Goals
The Health and Exercise Science program will prepare students to transfer to programs in many colleges and universities in the area. This program will be generic enough to provide its students with a broad - based background sufficient for the advanced degree in the curriculum.

Introduction
Our Lady of Lourdes Institute of Wholistic Studies and Camden County College are cooperatively offering a degree and certification in Massage Therapy. This course of study will lead to an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Massage Therapy. The graduate of this program will also earn a certificate in Massage Therapy from the Lourdes Institute of Wholistic Studies. The graduate will also meet the qualifications necessary to sit for the National Certification exam as set forth by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work. Students may transfer in credits from other institutions. Financial aid is available for qualified students. The Financial Aid Office at Camden County College (856) 227-7200, Ext. 4985 will answer any questions or concerns regarding the process of applying for financial assistance.

Opportunities
Massage therapists have a tremendous variety of employment opportunities to choose from: self-employment, salons, day spas, athletic clubs, cruise ships, chiropractor and physician offices, fitness clubs, country clubs, assisted living facilities, casino hotels, professional sports teams, corporate wellness programs, etc. This is an exciting and dynamic field!

Admissions Procedures
1. Complete a Camden County College admissions application.
2. Complete a program specific application packet for Massage Therapy, available from the Camden County College Admissions Office, Department of Health and Exercise Science or the Lourdes Institute of Wholistic Studies.
3. Schedule a personal interview with the Director of Lourdes Institute.
4. Apply for financial aid through Camden County College if desired.

Please note that the massage courses will require additional lab fees. Check the course schedule for specific information. MAS-200, 240 & 245 require additional materials including oils, lotions, massage table, face cradle and bolster.


Personal Trainer Certificate

Program
As we move toward the 21st Century society will increasingly focus on health, wellness and prevention. Men and women recognize the importance of physical fitness and its contribution to living a useful, productive, and satisfying life. Therefore, opportunities to improve their quality of life are sought through the increasing number of health and fitness clubs, business and industry wellness centers and recreation centers.A one - year certificate program in Personal Training was developed in response to the need for trained and knowledgeable individuals for employment in health and fitness centers. Practical experience in the most current technologies used to develop and evaluate fitness and health is gained in the Camden County College Wellspring Fitness Lab, which also serves as a community and employee wellness program.

Goals and Objectives
A graduate of this program will possess the necessary skills to become proficient in designing and implementing comprehensive, individualized fitness programs for adults. They are prepared to sit for national certification examinations, such as those offered through the American Council on Exercise and the American College of Sports Medicine. In addition, a student will receive instruction in physical fitness training, anatomy and physiology, public relations, and first aid and safety.While this program is designed to provide career preparation, many students can continue their education and seek a bachelors degree in a variety of physical education and exercise fields.

*Students entering college for the first time must take the Basic Skills Test before entering the program. Basic Skills prerequisite levels are: Math Skills I, Reading Skills III, Writing Skills III.

**Students interested in preparing for the Aerobics Certification exam are to take Theories and Applications of Physical Training II instead of Theories and Application of Physical Training I. Those desiring preparation for both exams may take both courses.

***Prerequisite for the Internship is completion of all 17 credits as listed above.

Sport Management Transfer Program

The sport management program prepares a student to receive an associate in science degree. This enables a student to transfer to a four-year college or university to continue study in sport management in order to earn a baccalaureate degree in this field. Career options include positions in professional collegiate, and minor league sport organizations, as well as sports agency and retail management positions. Students will be required to complete an internship as part of this curriculum

The Sport Management program will prepare students to transfer to programs in many colleges and universities in the area. This program will be generic enough to provide its students with a broad - based background sufficient for the baccalaureate degree in this curriculum.
