Professor's 'Catalysts for Contemplation' Showing in CCC Gallery
Camden County College’s Marlin Gallery will present the drawings and paintings of Art Department faculty member Gregory Brellochs in the solo show “Immersion” starting Feb. 1.
Brellochs, who has taught sculpture and design full-time at CCC since 2005, works primarily in graphite, ink and varnish. His images – which he considers “catalysts for contemplation” – explore physical, sensual and visceral worlds of the imagination while evoking a poetic fascination for the inner workings of nature and the mind.
“I am awed by the sublime beauty of nature and the exquisite complexity of the mind,” he says. “Through my work, I seek to integrate my interests in aesthetics, the natural sciences, cognitive science and philosophy in order to explore a holistic awareness of being.”
This is the second time that Brellochs has been featured in a solo show at the College. He also has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Clay College in Millville, Center City’s AxD Gallery, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Opus One in Munich, Germany. In addition, he has shown work at Arcadia University, Bluestone Fine Art Gallery, Bucks County Community College, Moore College of Art and Design, Thomas Architects & Engineers, Wayne Arts Center and Philadelphia’s Center for Emerging Visual Artists, where he completed a two-year Career Development Program Fellowship. Past honors for the Philadelphia resident include selection to the 30th annual Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial Wind Challenge Exhibitions and addition of his two-dimensional work to the registry of contemporary drawings at New York City’s The Drawing Center.
Brellochs received tenure at CCC in 2009. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts College of Art and a master’s degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
“Immersion” will open with an artist’s reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 1 and continue through March 2. Admission to the reception and the show is free.
