On-line courses are a distance learning approach to
instruction where the classroom is the course website.
Students and faculty communicate via the Internet, email,
fax, mail, or telephone. To be successful with this
mode of delivery, students must be self-directed learners
who possess strong reading and writing skills. Since
taking an online course is similar to an independent
study experience, students need to be goal oriented
and self disciplined.
All course sessions will be conducted at the student's
convenience over the Internet. Thus, access to the Internet,
and understanding basic Internet navigation is essential.
Also, synchronous (same time) chat sessions may be required
weekly. Students may be required to take examinations
at the Blackwood campus at the College Testing Center
although most can be taken online.
If you registered for an online
Internet course see below for instructions
and technical requirements.
ONLINE COURSE
GUIDELINES
Online Internet courses require students
to have access to a personal computer with Internet
access and an Internet service provider. Sometimes referred
to as a "Web course", online Internet courses
heavily use the World Wide Web. The interactive capabilities
of the web are used for email, access to course related
links to the Internet, chat rooms to facilitate student
to student, or student to faculty communications and
interaction, course materials and assignments. Internet
courses require the purchase of a text and possibly
coming to campus for group presentations, either at
the College's testing Center, or online.
To succeed in an online course, students must possess
strong study skills, self-motivation, and the ability
to work independently. While Internet courses are every
bit as challenging as traditional courses, they require
a degree of computer literacy (particularly some basic
proficiency on the Internet), as well as effective time
management skills. A critical key to success in an Internet
course is maintaining communications with the instructor
preferably by email.
Student Issues involving Online
courses . . .
· Internet courses provide
the student with the opportunity to work independently.
· Internet courses provide students' greater flexibility
and freedom than traditional courses, but require much
more discipline, and time management.
· Internet courses require students to access the
courses materials and assignments located on the course
website.
· Online students should dedicate normal classroom
time they would spend on campus in a traditional course
to working off campus on the course website.
· The rule of thumb that " for every hour
spent in the classroom, a student should spend two hours
in additional study" still applies to an online course.
· Online students should submit course assignments,
quizzes, and examinations required for the online course
in a timely manner, just as they would in a traditional
classroom environment.
Computer Skills
There are prerequisite computer
skills and knowledge a student should possess prior to
enrolling in an online class at Camden County College.
Since students may only visit the campus for orientations,
exams, and presentations, it is imperative that they be
able to navigate their computer and the web to access
their virtual classroom.
Basic Computer and Internet Skills . . .
· Possess the ability to start, shutdown, and restart
the computer.
· Navigate a window using a mouse to include pointing,
clicking, and dragging.
· Utilize the parts of a window, such as the scroll
bar, dialog boxes, and menus.
· Create folders, copy and move objects, save and
open documents and files.
· Format, copy, and delete files to, or from a
drive or diskette.
· Access the web through the use of an Internet
browser.
· Use a web browser and Internet search engines.
· Download documents from the web.
· Use email and send or access email attachments.
· Download and install auxiliary programs such
as "Real One Player".

Welcome to the exciting world of
distance education, specifically on-line delivery. By
enrolling in an internet-interactive course at Camden
County College, you have joined the growing number of
students nationally who are seeking alternative ways to
engage in rewarding educational experiences.
We know that you are excited about starting your online
course (and probably a little apprehensive, too!). You
probably have a number of questions. Hopefully, this letter
will answer some of the more general ones.
Am I ready for an on line course?
The Distance Learning website offers to students a brief
self-graded self-assessment. The self-assessment may be
accessed from the Distance Learning link Camden County
College home page – http://www.camdencc.edu/.
If you cannot say “yes” to a most of the questions,
you might want to reconsider taking an on line course.
If you wish to further discuss your readiness for distance
learning, please contact Regina Peters at extension 4450
or email her at rpeters@camdencc.edu
or contact online support at extension 5007 or email at
online@camdencc.edu.
What are the
technical requirements?
See below.
When do you
“attend” your course?
The on-line course is really a web site. The course
is available to the student 24 hours a day, seven days
a week.
How is testing
handled in an on-line course?
Instructors use a number of testing options: most tests
will be available on-line; However, students may be
required to use the College test center or may be assigned
to designated proctored sites off campus. Again, instructors
will provide specific information at the beginning of
the semester.
How
do you access your course? Go to the website ccc.webstudy.com (do not type www.)
Here you will find yourself on a home page where you are asked to log in with a username and password.
Your log in may not be active until the first day of the semester
Students who have not logged into an online course within 10 days (regular semesters) or 4 days (mini semesters) from the beginning of the online semester will be in risk of being removed from the course. This may affect your financial aid or insurance status.
Your Log In/Username and Password
The student is asked for two pieces of LogIn information each time the student accesses the course website: A username AND a personal password. The College has created these two pieces of information for each student. After logging on the student can change the password:
Log in/id/username: first initial of the student’s first name + first initial of the student’s last name + college 7-digit ID number (no spaces), Password: same (you can change your password after log on).
Example: Harry James, College ID number: 0123456
Log in/username: hj0123456
Password: hj0123456
Does the Distance Learning Program Provide Technical
Assistance To Students?
There is a student help line (technical assistance)
that students may dial directly during normal business
hours, 856-374-5007. Students can email the Help Desk
at online@camdencc.edu.
Please use the email evenings, weekends and holidays.
