Do
you offerPreparatory Skills Programs?
Upon completion of the placement tests, students are placed in preparatory
skills classes designed for their individual needs. Preparatory studies
may take one or two years depending on the skill level of the student.
The Preparatory Program will focus on English,
reading and writing courses especially designed for deaf and hard of hearing
students. Academic Math Skills classes are offered in ASL.
What
is the MidAtlantic Post-Secondary Center?
The Center was established in 1988 in response to a demand for comprehensive
services for the deaf and hard of hearing students at the post-secondary
level in the state of New Jersey. The Center is funded in part by a state
grant from the State of New Jersey under the Higher Education Services
of Special Needs Students Program.
The Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students at Camden County College
in Blackwood, New Jersey offers certificate and degree programs for deaf
and hard of hearing students who seek career and academic training. Most
students will take two or more years to complete their studies.
What
kind of Certificate Programs are available?
Challenging Certificate Programs are offered in:
Painting: Faux Painting
Computer Aided Design/Drafting
Computer Graphics
Microsoft Office User Specialist
and more.....
A student who successfully completes a certificate program will receive
a College Certificate. The College offers career and transfer degree programs
in Allied Health, Business, Engineering Technology, Liberal Arts and many
more. Associate Degree Programs offered are listed in Camden County College's
catalog. Contact the Center for specific offerings.
Can the Center teach me to become independent?
We sure can! For new incoming students the Center provides required courses
such as "College Success" and "Life Management Skills."
This is to teach the students how to become successful in their studies
and to acquire the necessary skills to function independently in today's
ever changing society.
What kinds of Support Services does the Center provide?
The Center employs a highly trained staff who provide the following support
services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students:

Interpreters/Notetakers/C-Print/Tutors
Financial Aid Assistance
Assistive Listening Devices
Housing Information
Are there extracurricular activities on campus?
Camden County College offers a wide variety of fun activities:

How do I apply?
It's easy. Call or write our office for an application or apply online.
Please complete and return the application form to the Admissions Office.
It is also imperative to send the Center your high school and other college
transcripts along with a current audiogram. When we receive the forms
your application will be reviewed and you will be notified by the College
of you acceptance. Students wishing to enroll will attend a Summer Orientation.
The focus of the orientation program is to:
Orient the student to college life
Provide placement testing
Assist in independent living arrangements
