A BRIEF HISTORY
In
1974 the New Jersey legislature authorized the implementation
of ALS-level paramedic services for the state. Nine pilot
programs were put in place to evaluate the efficacy of these
services and today, New Jersey and its visitors enjoy 100%
ALS coverage. One of the pilot programs, West Jersey Health
System (now Virtua Health)also became a
site authorized by the New Jersey Department of Health and
Senior Services, Office of EMS, to provide paramedic didactic
education at Camden
County College and clinical training at various Virtua Health
and affiliated MICU clinical sites. In 1997, Virtua Health
and Camden County college entered into a formal agreement
that officially created The School of Paramedic Sciences.
Administration of the School is by the Mobile
Intensive Care Unit
