Frequently Asked Questions about the Gloucester City College Bound Program at Camden County College.
What is the College Bound Program?
College Bound targets high-school students and provides pre-college educational and enrichment activities. Career exploration activities highlight careers in science, math and various technology fields.
Does College Bound take place throughout the school year only?
No. College Bound is a year-round academic and enrichment program. During the school year, fifteen Saturday mornings are targeted for instruction. Summer activities include programs designed to improve high school grade point average (GPA) and standardized test result in a relaxed college atmosphere.
Does this mean I have to give up my extracurricular activities?
No. It is important you maintain all activities throughout the high school years. There may be conflicts at times, but with additional preparation, these should not pose a problem.
Who is eligible for the College Bound Program?
All Gloucester City High School students entering or are already in ninth, tenth or eleventh grade, are eligible for the program.
What are the criteria for being accepted into the program?
Students who are in good academic standing and are recommended by a faculty member are eligible for the program.
Once accepted, what can I expect?
Highly skilled instructors will deliver college-prep material to students at the Blackwood Campus. Career counselors will work one-on-one with students and parents to implement a program suited to the needs of the student. College mentors and tutors will serve as role models.
What is the cost?
Tuition is free of charge to the student. Transportation and meals, as needed, are included.
Is it true I can earn money for attending College-Bound labs and workshops?
Yes, you can earn a small stipend for attending all lab dates and workshops, provided you maintain good academic progress in the program and in your school course work as well.
What if I can't keep up with the course work or if I need extra help with my college boards?
Don't worry, we provide tutoring and additional SAT prep work, if needed.
Will it be all work and no fun?
Absolutely not. College Bound students love to attend the academic labs as well as the extracurricular activities we plan. Last summer, our fun activities included becoming a marine biologist for a day at the Adventure Aquarium in Camden and a "Forensic Science Day" with students acting as CSI investigators. Planned activities include trips to museums, plays, and many other cultural and interactive experiences.
