CONFINED SPACE AWARENESS & OPERATIONS

CONTENT: The Awareness portion of this program is designed as the first phase and Prerequisite for the Camden County College’s RETC Confined Space Training Series. This series covers Awareness, Operations, and Technician Level programs along with Technical Skills enhancement classes. The objective is to provide the students with an Awareness training levels for the Confined Space environment, as per NFPA and Confined Space Industry Standards. The Operations portion of this program is designed as the second phase of the Camden County College’s RETC Confined Space Training Series. This section, of the series, covers the hands-on operations of basic and intermediate Confined Space rescue skills. The Operations program covers the requirements of NFPA along with current Confined Space Industry Standards.

CONTENT: This NEW program will consist of online lectures, videos, assignments and on-site practical evolutions to meet the competencies for certification in the State of New Jersey and Pro Board Certification. This course will meet the N.F.P.A. 1001 standard for level I certification. This course is designed to instruct the students on the subjects / modules required for Fire Fighter I certification. Attending students will be required to pass a Pro-Board written examination, and tested on all practical skills to receive their accreditation.

REQUIREMENT(S): Students will need to bring their own lunch, (2) accountability tags, approved PPE & SCBA w/ spare cylinder each day.

PRE-REQUISITE: MUST be 18yrs of age; CPR Certified; AND provide a physical form by an approved healthcare provider.

CONTENT: This program will consist of a current PowerPoint presentation in culmination with open dialog between the students and the Instructor. The students will learn the importance of the observations and the actions taken by all first responders. Real case histories of lessons learned will be discussed. This program is extremely important to those who wish to further their position within the emergency services.

CONTENT: This course has been developed to provide the new (or) seasoned pump operator with a refresher on the knowledge and skills to complete the varied tasks necessary on an emergency scene. Modules will review the different types of hose, nozzles and appliances that are used currently in the fire service. Students will learn the different pressures, equipment use and the comparisons associated with each type of equipment. Students will learn about flow meters and the newer technology available on how to test the pressure of pre-connect lines of various sizes.The class will continue with a field exercise utilizing the principles reviewed in the classroom.

CONTENT: Students will examine additional modules in the Incident Management System. Various topics will be covered to include personnel staffing levels, organizing events, and what a resource manager responsibilities are. In addition, subjects on staffing positions and span of control will be review, and the required documentation for all major incidents. Attending students will also be required to work in group sessions being assigned emergency incidents to command in table-top scenarios.

REQUIREMENT(S): Students MUST provide documentation that they completed I-200 (In-Person) after the 2019 update or they will NOT BE ELIGIBLE for the course.

LARGE AREA SEARCH (Dobleman)

CONTENT: A large area search is a search where a team is entering a fire building to do a primary or secondary search under arduous conditions because of a known life hazard. This type of search is used in a building that does not require a wide-open-area search or a patterned search. Instead, this type of search uses the rope to secure and control an exit point from the fire area. Building types include office buildings, apartment houses with long hallways or stores with aisles that have stock and merchandise in place. This class will teach and demonstrate different ways on how to effectively accomplish a large area search task.

REQUIREMENT(S): Full PPE, SCBA and Spare cylinder are required.

CONTENT: Lithium-ion battery-powered devices — like cell phones, laptops, toothbrushes, power tools, electric vehicles and scooters — are being deployed globally. Despite the many advantages of lithium-ion batteries, a significant safety drawback is the possibility that these batteries can overheat, catch fire, and cause explosions. Fires involving various lithium-ion battery products have increased at an alarming rate, resulting in numerous injuries and fatalities. Even when the initial cause of a fire was not the lithium-ion powered device, the involvement of these batteries can increase the intensity and magnitude of the fire.

In this short course, we will go over Battery Construction, location they can be found, different hazards, mitigation techniques, prevention techniques, and clean up.

This series covers Awareness, Operations, and Technician Level programs along with Technical Skills enhancement classes. The objective is to provide the students with an Awareness training levels for the Rope Rescue environment, as per NFPA and Rope Rescue Industry Standards. The Operations portion of this program, formally taught as Rope I&II, is designed as the second phase of the Camden County College’s RETC Rope Rescue Training Series. This section, of the series, covers the hands-on operations of basic and intermediate rope rescue skills. The Operations program covers the requirements of NFPA along with current Rope Rescue Industry Standards and was previously offered as two separate sections; Rope 1 and Rope 2.

CONTENT: This program has been developed to prepare individuals to serve as Company Officers, and to enhance the skills of existing officers. The class is a combination of lecture, student activities and simulated practical evolutions, with a focus on firefighter safety and critical decision-making. Students will have the opportunity to interact with a simulated dispatcher to provide initial size-up and follow-up reports on radio. On the last day of class, students will have the opportunity to supervise a crew of firefighters and direct their actions on a variety of simulated emergency situations.
REQUIREMENT(S): Students will need to bring their own lunch. Approved PPE is required on Sunday. SCBA is not needed.
PRE-REQUISITE: Fire Service personnel responsible to supervise.

TRUCK COMPANY OPERATIONS (Coppola)

CONTENT: This program will consist of a classroom lecture and "Hands-On" sessions reviewing the fundamentals of basic truck company operations. Topics to be covered include, apparatus placement, aerial operations, and the tactical considerations personnel face at each incident. Students will be given practical exercises utilizing ground ladders, the aerial device and the tools associated with standard operations.

REQUIREMENT(S): Students will need to bring their own lunch and wear approved PPE & SCBA w/ spare cylinder. Students MUST be in good physical condition.

CONTENT: This 19 hour program will consist of a lecture on the role of the first responder, EMS and various tools used in extrication. Students will review the principles of removing victims from wrecks and how vehicle construction is changing, making the process more difficult. The Sunday session will consist of hands on field evolutions using various rescue tools giving the participant the skills and knowledge needed to operate safely.

CONTENT: This class is great for anyone new in the fire service to obtain a better understanding on how to read smoke based on a few core concepts. Reading smoke is critical to ensure there is good decision making. This skill is as important to the fire attack team at the front door as it is to the incident commander (IC) at the command post. This class will provide classroom lecture with a live fire demonstration to bring it all together.
