Decodable Text is a Bridge, Not a Destination

April 14 @ 8:00 am - 1:30 pm

Presenter: Cheryl Tartaglione
Time: Registration – 8:00 to 8:30 | Workshop – 8:30 to 1:30
Cost: $149 (Registration fee includes a continental breakfast)

In this participatory workshop, attendees will examine how our struggling readers need controlled text to support their growing knowledge of taught phonograms. Expanding to connected text can at times be challenging. This workshop will explore the use of materials that will meaningfully bridge controlled text to connected text to enhance fluency as well as comprehension.

Cheryl Tartaglione is a Reading Specialist with a master’s degree in reading. She is an Orton-Gillingham therapist who served for nine years as a practicum instructor for Fairleigh Dickinson University at the Children’s Dyslexia Center in Northfield, NJ, and Co-Director of the Burlington County Center. A member of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), the Co-Director of Children’s Dyslexia Center in Burlington, NJ, and the International Multisensory Structured Language Educational Council (IMSLEC), she is trained in several multisensory-based reading programs including Wilson Language System, Language, Project Read (all strands) and LiPs. Cheryl has provided in-service training for ASAH, EIRC, NJAIS, NJIDA, Camden County College, and the Foundation for Educational Administration, as well as numerous school districts throughout NJ. She has served as a reading specialist and a response to intervention teacher for Glassboro Public Schools.
