Goal One: Provide occupational training to students
in areas of labor market demand to prepare a skilled workforce
that meets industry and educational standards.
Objective #1.1 Expand participation strategies
for business, industry and labor in each funded occupational
program.
Objective #1.2 Integrate academics, vocational
and technical instruction (i.e., applied academics)
at all partner institutions and accept secondary-level
applied academics courses for college admission.
Objective #1.3 Develop and implement transition
strategies that integrate Tech Prep into the School-to-Careers
system within Camden County College’s WIB area.
Objective #1.4 Use educational technology
and distance learning to involve all consortium partners
more fully in program development and operation.
Objective #1.5 Provide preparatory services,
as needed, to assist all program participants.
Goal Two: Establish consortia to improve training
opportunities for students in occupational programs.
Objective #2.1 Provide equal access to the
full range of technical programs to individuals
who are
members of special populations, including the development
of technical program services appropriate to the
needs
of special populations.
Objective #2.2 Recruit and retain under-represented
students, increase overall student participation and
enrollment in the Tech Prep program over FY99 levels
and encourage student participation in affiliated
vocational student organizations.
Objective #2.3 Implement a formative and summative
evaluation strategy that will collect program and
follow-up data, evaluate staff training systems, monitor
performance outcomes and initiate corrective actions,
as necessary.
Objective #2.4 Link secondary schools, two-year
postsecondary institutions and four-year institutions
of higher education through non-duplicative sequences
of courses in career fields, including the investigation
of opportunities for Tech Prep secondary students
to enroll concurrently in secondary and postsecondary
course work.
Goal Three: Improve and expand articulation between
the secondary and postsecondary providers of education
and training.
Objective #3.1 Develop written articulation
agreements among participants in the consortium.
Objective #3.2 Implement an in-service training
program for Tech Prep personnel, including teachers,
that:
- Trains vocational-technical teachers to effectively
implement Tech Prep programs;
- Provides joint training for teachers in the Tech
Prep consortium;
- Ensures that teachers and administrators stay
current with the needs, expectations and methods
of business and all aspects of the industry;
- Trains postsecondary faculty in the use of contextual
and applied curricula and instructions; and
- Provides training in the use and application
of technology
Objective #3.3 To develop and implement an
in-service training program for Tech Prep counselors
to more effectively:
- Provide students with more information regarding
Tech Prep educational programs and options;
- Support student services in completing Tech Prep
programs;
- Provide information on related employment opportunities;
- Ensure that students are placed in appropriate
employment; and
- Stay current with the needs, expectations and
methods of business and all aspects of the industry.
Objective #3.4 Admit all secondary Tech Prep
graduates directly into the postsecondary degree program
without placing these prospective students on a waiting
list.
