Students Build Bridges to Success
Tech Prep students entered a contest that required them
to build a bridge consisting of only balsa wood and Elmer's
glue. Bridges had to be free standing: no wider than 4 inches and no higher
than 12 inches.
Finished bridges were taken to the College where they
were measured, weighted, and tested for strength.
To test the bridge's endurance, a 30 pound bucket of
sand was hung on the mid-span of the bridge. Bridges
failing to hold the same bucket were disqualified. Pre-engineering
teacher, Michael Engle, of Camden County Technical School
said, "This was a tremendous hands-on learning experience
for all of the students involved. We're already looking
forward to next year's competition!"
