Dickens and Fossils and Ghosts ... Oh My! Mini-Courses Cover Many Topics


Camden County College’s Center for Civic Leadership and Responsibility is offering a second set of five-week mini-courses on a variety of timely and historical topics this fall. Each mini-course will add to the personal development of interested community members and help certified New Jersey teachers earn required professional development hours.

Mini-courses scheduled to begin the week of Nov. 5 and run into December:

● “Celebration of Dickens’ 200th Anniversary,” which meets at 4 p.m. Mondays on the Blackwood Campus in Gloucester Township.

● “A Study on Fossils, Paleontology and the Evolution of Animals throughout Prehistory,” which meets at 6:30 p.m. Mondays on the Blackwood Campus in Gloucester Township.

● “China from Revolution to World Power,” which meets at 2 p.m. Tuesdays on the Blackwood Campus in Gloucester Township.

● “Haunted: A History of Ghosts in Literature and Pop Culture,” which meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays on the Blackwood Campus in Gloucester Township.

● “An Introduction to the Language and Culture of Ancient Egypt,” which meets at 4 p.m. Thursdays on the Blackwood Campus in Gloucester Township.

● “The Cuban Missile Crisis: 50 Years After,” which meets at 6:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the William G. Rohrer Center in Cherry Hill.

Cost is $25 per mini-course or $50 for a 2012-13 Center for Civic Leadership and Responsibility membership, which includes enrollment in an unlimited number of mini-courses at no additional charge through June 30.

Teachers who participate will receive 15 hours of professional development per course. If they only attend individual class meetings of a course, they will earn three hours per attendance.
