CCC Offering EPA/HUD-Approved Renovation/Repair/Painting Training
From July 19 to 21, Camden County College will offer a comprehensive training series for New Jersey contractors to meet federal and state requirements for renovation, repair and painting projects that may disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes, childcare facilities and multi-family dwellings.
CCC will offer these federal Environmental Protection Agency-approved courses in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, New Jersey Business & Industry Association and New Jersey Community College Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development. The Consortium is an accredited training provider for the EPA/Department of Housing and Urban Development Renovation, Repair and Painting Program.
Contractors must be certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Firms must use certified renovators who are trained by EPA-approved providers to follow lead-safe work practices. Renovators include renovation contractors, maintenance workers, painters and other specialty tradesmen and tradeswomen.
To accommodate the certification needs of these workers, CCC’s training package includes coursework leading to four certificates: the Environmental Protection Agency Model Renovator Initial Certificate, the Environmental Protection Agency Dust Sampling Technician Certificate, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Rules and Regulations Certificate and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hazardous Communications Certificate. All certificates will be awarded upon successful completion and will be distributed at the conclusion of the course.
The 20-hour training course will be offered at the College’s Camden County Regional Emergency Training Center facility at 420 N. Woodbury-Turnersville Road in Blackwood, Gloucester Township. “Renovator and New Jersey Regulations” will run 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 19; “Dust Wipe Technician” will run 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 20; and “OSHA HazCom” will run 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 21.
The state Department of Community Affairs is subsidizing the training to reduce the cost for contractors and their workers. As a result, the cost for this 20-hour course is just $190 per person plus $72 per person for text and other materials.
