These hair-thin beams of light guide weapons and are instrumental in materials processing, many surgical procedures, scan bar codes at check-out counters, and are responsible for the high fidelity of CD's and DVD's and breathtaking laser shows. They transmit data, video, and voices around the world at the speed of light. Students in the Photonics program work in all facets of the industry.
