Program
Objective
The cooperative nursing program is a unique approach to
nursing education. The program is designed to continue the
strong clinical component at the School of Nursing and to
strengthen this experience with a strong academic background
in the biological, physical, social sciences, and humanities
at the College. The primary objective of the program is
to prepare a beginning nurse generalist who functions in
a variety of health care settings.
Career
Description
The registered nurse (RN) is a health care professional
academically and clinically prepared to care for patients
in a variety of health care settings. Nurses assist people
to reach their full potential for optimal health maintenance
and wellness throughout the life span. Since they are concerned
with all aspects of a person's well being, they are an integral
part of health care in the community.
Program
Goals
To provide an associate in science degree and a diploma
in nursing which will prepare students to work in a variety
of healthcare settings.
To develop competency in the art and science of nursing
practice
To develop the student's critical thinking skills necessary
for any area of health care delivery
To provide a foundation for further academic endeavors
To demonstrate methods of effective therapeutic communication
To foster an awareness of the importance of community service,
groups, and organizations
Special
Admission Requirements
An application should be submitted to the school of nursing.
The Admissions Committee consists of personnel from Our
Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing and Camden County College.
All candidates will have their credentials examined by the
admissions committee.
Admission
Criteria - Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing
Graduation from an approved secondary school or a GED
Applicant must submit a high school transcript and/or a
GED certificate.
Students must complete the basic skills requirements in
English and math before acceptance into the Nursing Program.
Students who are deficient in one or more areas of basic
skills will be advised to take the proper remediation classes
prior to applying to the program.
Students must complete high school level chemistry and biology
with a "C" or better.
A personal interview with a member of the Admissions Committee
at the school of nursing is required
Two letters of reference are to be submitted to the school
of nursing
To receive transfer credits for Anatomy and Physiology I
and II, each course must have been taken within five years
of entry into the nursing program.
Beginning Fall 2003, College GPA of 2.5 or above in first
year classes in order to be accepted into Nursing I. Students
must have a "C" or better in all college general
education course work.
Nurse Entrance Test (NET) score 60%.
Our
Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing: College Entrance
Examination Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) composite
score above 900 beginning with the class entering 9/99 OR
a composite score in the 50th percentile or above on the
NLN examination (Psychological Corporation Pre-Nursing Exam
Scores may be
substituted).
Foreign/International
ESL Students: The TOEFL exam, with a minimum of 560
or computer = 220, is required for students whose native
language is not English. A student must present official
transcripts of all previous college courses.
Degree Earned
Nursing students who complete the requirements of this program
receive a diploma in Nursing from Our Lady of Lourdes School
of Nursing and, at the same time, earn an associate in science
degree from Camden County College. Graduates of the cooperative
program are eligible to apply for the State Registered Nurse
Licensure Examination.
Program Requirements
Camden County College provides the academic courses for
students to earn the degree. The courses include biology,
chemistry, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, as well
as courses in English composition, sociology, psychology,
and liberal arts. The school of nursing will teach all nursing
subjects and provide clinical experience for their respective
students. The curricula of the schools are designed to provide
a balance between theory and practical skills.

Transfer to RN-BSN Programs
Most colleges have a limit on the number of transfer credits that will be accepted. The transferability of credit will depend on the decisions of the baccalaureate nursing program evaluating the student's transcript. The credits for nursing courses will be determined by the college the student selects.
