Program Description
A Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs analytical and diagnostic tests on various body fluids. Physicians depend on these accurate finding along with patient history for diagnosis, prognosis and proper treatment of patients and their illnesses. A Medical Laboratory Technician is an important professional on the medical team.

Program Information

• The Medical Laboratory Technology program is offered in cooperation with several area hospital laboratories.
• During the final semester of the program, the student is assigned to a hospital laboratory, where students receive supervised instruction and practice clinical laboratory procedures on State-of-the-art equipment.
• Medical laboratory technicians work in an environment that requires a variety of physical, visual, auditory and mental skills for the practice of medical laboratory technology.
• A list of Essential Functions and program requirements are available through the program director.
• Program objectives and goals are published and available through the program Director.
• Non-native, English speaking applicants must complete an ESL program at an accredited institution and obtain an iBT TOEFLE examination score of no less than 20 in each section of the examination.

Special Program Requirements:
Admission into the Medical Laboratory Technology program is based on the following criteria:

• Must be 18 years or older
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum GPA of 2.0 or better in all science and math courses
• Interview with Director of Clinical Laboratory Sciences
• Demonstration of proficiency in written and verbal communications.

After completion of the above prerequisites, the following will then occur:

• MLT-206 course admission strictly adheres to prerequisites and academic requirements
• The program may become selective if the number of candidates exceeds the class limitations.
• Students are required to be -full-time in the final fall and spring semesters of thr program.
• The clinical practicum experience is eight hours per day, Monday through Friday for 18 weeks.
• A physical examination, various immunizations, proof of health insurance and a criminal background check is required prior to the clinical practicum experience at the affiliate laboratory.
