Health Science - Associate in Applied Science Degree ( HSC.AAS)

This associate’s degree program gives students, who have completed a minimum of 500 hours of post secondary accredited allied health programs, the ability to earn 22 college credits. Accredited allied health programs with no less than 300 and up to 499 hours will earn a minimum of 12 college credits. Post secondary credits will be granted after completion of the required Camden County College courses.

Program Requirements
Allied Health paraprofessionals who are graduates of an accredited allied health program and currently hold a certificate or licensure credential are eligible to receive college credit.  All applicants to this program must take a required core of courses consisting of a minimum of 44 college credits.  Post secondary allied health programs that contain both field experience and didactic instruction with a minimum of 500 hours will be eligible to apply for 22 additional college credits toward an Associate in Health Science degree.  Allied health programs with no less than 300, and up to 499 hours, will require a 54 credit hour minimum.  They are eligible to apply for 12 additional credits toward an Associate in Health Science degree by portfolio assessment.

Program Goals

  • To provide additional general education for students who have successfully graduated from an accredited allied health program and who hold a certificate or license in their field of work.
  • To facilitate upward career mobility for health care workers by building upon prior skill-based knowledge and clinical experience
  • To increase the number of paraprofessional health care workers with skills of a generally educated person, i.e., to communicate effectively, think critically, and problem-solve across disciplines
  • To prepare the student for further educational endeavors

Student Objectives
Upon successful completion of all required course work in the health science curriculum, the student will:

  • Receive an Associate in Applied Science degree in Health Science
  • Earn a minimum of 12, or a maximum of 22 credits for completing a post secondary allied health program and Camden County College credits
  • Demonstrate competencies in communication skills, critical thinking, mathematics, science and technology, individual and societal behavior, aesthetic perspective, ethical awareness, health and well being, and computer skills

Special Admission Requirements
In addition to the admission requirements of the College, the following criteria are required:

  • Submission of diploma or certificate from an accredited allied health program
  • Submission of current license or certification
  • Completion of a health science program application
  • Submission of post secondary allied health education transcript
  • Interview with the Allied Health coordinator
