About the College Bound Program
College Bound: The Gloucester City College Partnership Program at Camden County College
Description
College Bound is funded by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education and Camden County College. The program serves 80 students currently attending Gloucester City High School in Camden County, NJ. It supports pre-college educational and enrichment activities that encourage students to complete high school and successfully pursue post-secondary careers in math, science, or technology.
Grant funds provide on-campus programs, workshops and year-round educationally enriched activities. During the summer, high school freshman, sophomore and juniors participate
in a college-prep curriculum taught on the Blackwood Campus of Camden County College by college professors, instructors and tutors. Supplemental instruction also is provided on Saturdays during the academic year for program participants. Additionally, the College provides for a program advisor/counselor on site at Gloucester City High School during the academic year.
Gloucester City High School students enrolled in College Bound are exposed to various field trips with emphasis in math and science. Students also receive a economic stipend upon satisfactory completion of the program activities, including academic advisement, tutoring, career exploration, financial aid information, college field trips and leadership conferences.
Audience
College Bound is appropriate for students entering 9th, 10th and 11th grade who demonstrate academic potential, interest and commitment to the program.
Program evaluation
Successful high school graduation with a college bound grade point average, acceptance to post-secondary institutions, and post-secondary persistence are the program benchmarks.
Costs
The program is free for participating students. College Bound is fully funded through a grant from the Commission on Higher Education and in-kind contributions from Camden County College.
