The Camden County Freeholder Initiative Overview
In May 2005, the Camden County Freeholders announced an $83 million dollar initiative to transform Camden County College’s main campus in Blackwood consistent with the Master Plan. The unprecedented capital initiative is the most significant project under taken by Camden County College since the institution was founded in 1967. It will affect more than half of the facilities and structural amenities on the Blackwood campus, which is the college’s oldest and largest location.
Highlights of the Plan
- Changes over 56% of the campus’ physical plant
- Demolishes 7 old inefficient buildings
- Renovates 2 existing buildings
- Constructs 3 new buildings
- Creates roads, grounds and athletic fields suitable for a large multi-faceted campus
- Six years from start to finish with three phases of construction
- Builds on the incremental renovation and repair projects funded with previous capital appropriations
Funding Sources
The Camden County Freeholder initiative to transform and rebuild the Blackwood campus will be funded in three phases by three bond issues in 2005, 2007, and 2008. Debt service will be paid in partnership by the County, State, and College.
