EMT Training

This six (6) credit course is conducted on behalf of the New Jersey Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services, and is a basis for certification as an EMT within the State of New Jersey. This training and certification is for those wishing to work or volunteer for an ambulance service or company. It is also a prerequisite for those wishing to become a Paramedic. Students must be at least 18 years of age (16 years of age with written parental permission), and must be able to read and write English. Classes will address a variety of sensitive medical topics and will provide practical skills training as required to prepare for State Certification. The course is 175 classroom hours with an additional 60 hours of in-hospital and ambulance observation. New Jersey regulations governing EMT training mandate that you must attend every class. Options for making up missed classes are severely limited and students must consider this if schedule conflicts are known.

We offer both a traditional on-campus course and a hybrid/online course. The traditional class that meets every Monday and Thursday, 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM, plus every Saturday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. The hybrid course replaces the Monday/Thursday classes with online materials. All work must be completed by 5:00 PM on Friday. Hybrid students also meet every Saturday from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. All classes are held on the Blackwood campus.

It is recommended that before beginning EMT class, you obtain a CPR certification. Please be certain to take a course that provides a level of training for the healthcare provider. If you do not complete this, we will hold a CPR certification but the cost is not included in the tuition.
