Life and Times in 1967
The average yearly income in 1967 was $7,933. When Lyndon B. Johnson was president, a house cost $22,700. Milk was 57 cents a half gallon, 10 lbs. of potatoes cost 75 cents and 84 cents would bring home the bacon. Back then we could buy a loaf of bread at the supermarket for 22 cents

Camden County College - The First Decade

  • 1966 - Camden County College Board of Trustees meet for the first time.
  • 1967 - County Freeholders and the State of New Jersey provide funds to purchase
    the Mother of the Savior Seminary in Blackwood for the new home of Camden County College.
  • 1967 - Dr. Otto Mauke was selected as the first president and sets up an office
    in Washington Hall.
  • 1967 - Classes officially begin on September 25, 1967.
  • 1968 - The President's Office relocates to Roosevelt Hall.
  • 1969 - College starts an evening GED program in the City of Camden.
  • 1969 - A major expansion begins on the Blackwood Campus as construction starts on six
    new buildings.
  • 1970 - Adams Hall was constructed and outfitted with a state-of-the-art RCA
    Spectra 70 computer.
  • 1970 - Camden County College began to offer off-campus courses in Pennsuaken and Camden.
  • 1972 - The College Community Center opens its doors on October 2.
  • 1972 - Madison, Taft and Wolverton Halls are officially dedicated on November 18, 1972.
  • 1973 - The Camden City Extension Branch is officially opened at 310 Cooper Street.

The average yearly income in 1977 was $13,572. When James E. Carter was President, a house cost $48,800. Milk was 97 cents a half gallon, 10 lbs. Of potatoes cost $1.40 and $1.55 would bring home the bacon. Back then we could buy a loaf of bread at the supermarket for 49 cents.

Camden County College - The Second Decade

  • 1978 - Weekend courses were introduced for the first time.
  • 1978 - The Camden City Extension Center was moved to 7th and Cooper Street.
  • 1980 - A cooperative nursing program with Helene Fuld and Our Lady of Lourdes schools of
    nursing is established.
  • 1984 - New Jersey voters approve bonds to finance the construction of the CIM Center.
  • 1986 - The Garriel E. Danch CIM Center is officially dedicated.

The average yearly income in 1987 was $20,857. When Ronald Reagan was President, a house cost $85,600. Milk was $1.09 a half gallon, 10 lbs. Of potatoes cost $2.99 and $1.79 would bring home the bacon. Back then we could buy a loaf of bread at the supermarket for $1.29

Camden County College - The Third Decade

  • 1987 - Dr. Otto Mauke retires and Dr. Robert W. Ramsey is named the College's second president.
  • 1988 - The William H. Copperthwaite Dental Hygiene Clinic is dedicated.
  • 1988 - The MidAtlantic Center for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired opened.
  • 1988 - The Camden County Police Academy held its commencement ceremonies on the Blackwood
    Campus.
  • 1989 - A new 4700 square foot Child Care Center is opened on the Blackwood Campus.
  • 1990 - The Laser Institute of Technology building is opened.
  • 1991 - A new building is constructed at Broadway and Cooper Street in Camden for
    both Camden County College and Rowan University.
  • 1992 - The Camden City Branch is awarded full campus status by the New Jersey Board of Higher Education.
  • 1993 - The 36,000 square feet Helene Fuld School of Nursing is constructed on the Blackwood Campus.
  • 1993 - Dr. Phyllis Della Vecchia is named the third president of Camden County College.
  • 1995 - A major addition to the CIM building is completed.
  • 1997 - The College Website, www.Camdencc.edu is launched.

Camden County College - The Fourth Decade

  • 2000 - Camden County College expands into Cherry Hill when the High-tech William G. Rohrer Center
    in Cherry Hill is opened.
  • 2002 - The College conducts a comprehensive master plan.
  • 2004 - The Camden Technology Center containing high tech classrooms, an E-village and a parking
    garage is dedicated in Camden
  • 2006 - Camden County embarks on an $83 million five year plan to refurbish and expand the
    Blackwood Campus.
  • 2007 - Dr. Raymond Yannuzzi is appointed fourth president of Camden County College.
